Mathematical skills are integral to literacy. Without a strong foundation in number recognition, children will have difficulty performing other academic tasks. In this section, we begin by helping children recognize each number. Easy mastery of the information helps build self-esteem, so don’t move too quickly to more difficult tasks. Allow your child to enjoy each success. Once your child can read every number, and associate each number with the correct number of objects, you can introduce the relationship between numbers and number words. For children, learning is fun. You may want to assign numbers to objects in the real world and try playing counting games when you find yourself waiting in line. Count the number of people. Count the number of keys on a key chain. Count the number of fingers on your hand.

Time Center
In this section, children are introduced to the passage of time through a comparison between an analogue clock and a digital clock. We have chosen this reduced method because there are sharp differences in the way that time is read in different languages.  Our clocks can easily be translated into more than one language. This is an excellent first-step for very young children to begin to understand that numbers are used in describing the passage of time. Later, analogue clocks can be used to introduce fractions and other fundamental mathematical skills.
